Five Ulster teams went into the hat for today's Irish Senior Cup Draw. It was inevitable that one all Ulster tie would result and that tie is Lurgan at home to Pegasus.
The fact that this was a local derby added that extra bit of spice to what was always going to be a fiercely contested match.
Lurgan 4ths held Lisagarvey to 0-0 draw in a rearranged fixture at Garvey on Friday night.
Lurgan 2nds travelled to Lisnagarvey on Saturday battling for a place in the semi-final of the McConnell Shield. The previous meeting between these two teams in the league had resulted in a 4-0 defeat for Lurgan so the girls knew that they had to control the game in order to obtain a place in the semi-finals.
There is generally a tremendous sense of achievement to win against Pegasus and it was no less so for Lurgan under 14B’s who won 2-0 in their first league match of the new year.
The torrential rain and winds had blown themselves out just in time for Lurgans 4ths encounter with Newry 2nds at the new pitch at Newry Olympic.
This week Lurgan 2nds hosted North Down on Saturday at Brownlow. Having beaten their opponents 3-0 in the second round of the McConnell shield last week, the Lurgan girls were determined to clock up another win against them in the league.
