This was the Thirds last game of the season and having drawn with Ballymoney the week before they were keen to give a better account of themselves. Ballymoney had brought their season-long unblemished league record to an end and revenge for this was definitely on the cards.

Lurgan went into this game trailing Carrick by three points at the top of the table but with a game in hand over their rivals. Both teams had maximum points from all games played so it was obvious that this game was going to be a hard fought affair.

Lurgan went into this game buoyed up by their start to the new season having won both previous games against Harlequins and Ballymena. Dungannon would be no walkover and it was this team that denied the Thirds promotion two seasons ago. It was therefore important that they were focused right from the whistle.
