Image Lurgan arrived early and in great spirits. Last night we had all been invited to a barbeque at Kevin Chaplin’s house and that included a dip in Kevin’s pool (which was Baltic!) and for many, a spin in a vintage car. So this morning the girls were determined to show what they could do and to put up a good show for their new fan base from Cape Town which included the girls from Zimasa and Edendale as well as Linda Biehl.
The music box went on as usual and Lurgan formed an impromptu cheerleader group for the boy’s match that was on the pitch before them. Stirring anthems such as ‘Horse it in to you, Cynthia’ rang out under the morning sun.
Image Lurgan took the field, lining up for a rendition of ‘Ireland’s Call’ and then starting with a bang. Chloe McCann and Karissa Glenn scored two quick fire goals and established the pattern of strong Lurgan pressure. It was quickly clear that Lurgan’s passing game would be a key factor. Steph McGown and Katie Allen scored to make the half time score 4 – 0 to Lurgan.
Image Every player played a part in what turned out to be a 9 -0 victory. Second half scorers were Ellen Mullen (2), Gemma McKitterick, Chloe McCann again and finally Chloe McIlwaine.
Image Following the post match hospitality from our hosts the girls put the music on again and stared giving our opposition dance lessons, following this with a quick football match versus the boys.
Image As we now know expect the unexpected we took the next setback in our stride. Ambrose the bus driver after a faultless performance all week found a piece of soft ground in the car park trapping the bus, we had to change transport.
Image The plan for the remainder of today is rest, recreation and retail therapy, followed by dinner tonight dressed in all the newly purchased Springbok shirts.
As I close Ivor is giving a live interview to SABC by phone – it’s great to be this famous and the bonus is to attract some very welcome publicity for the Amy Biehl Foundation
