Junior Club Awards 2009 / 2010
Saturday, 05 June 2010 00:00

The annual junior hockey awards took place on Friday night at Lurgan Rugby Club. Having been rained off the previous week at Tollymore, the weather couldn’t have been kinder, warm and dry!

Over 150 players and parents turned up to see who had won the awards in each group. At the end of proceedings, Club President Mrs Paula McIlwaine had the honour of presenting a cheque for £1050.00 to Dickie Barr in support of his daughter’s charity fund. Charlene Barr suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, and is currently awaiting a double lung transplant. She courageously set up a charity to raise enough funds to build a school for under privileged children in Uganda. Being too unwell to attend the awards, her father Dickie accepted the cheque on Charlene’s behalf. She has now raised more than the £70,000.00 required and is giving the surplus amount to the local orphanage nearest to her new schools location.
